Day 6: It's good to be a Jew!

On Sunday September 6th, my very dear, amazing and beloved friends got married. It was an absolutely, unbelievably joyful and wonderful day. Well day, night and early morning - I got to the wedding at 2pm and didn't get home till 4am. And then today a bunch of wedding/college friends went to brunch. Like the title says, it's good to be a Jew!

It was an amazing wedding. Filled with so much joy and love and Jewiness and felt so much like the bride and groom. I was hesitating among a few different dresses but decided in the end to wear what I thought they would like the most, as well as what was most comfortable. The comfort level had a few thoughts behind it. I knew it was going to be a long day, I knew there was going to be hours of dancing and most of all the bride and groom are big believers of comfort.

Dress is an 18 from Torrid and it's from like 2004 or something. It is so much fun and I've worn it to a huge variety of events from birthday picnics to trans-prom. It has stars, it has tulle and it twirls. Seriously what more could any girl ask for. Earrings which I forgot to photograph are from one of my favorite accessories store Accessorize (I know what an original name) and the headband is from Ross. Yes Ross has amazing dresses, but they also have fun accessories as well. Shoes are unsurprisingly from Office and are so comfy to dance the night away in. Seriously cannot say enough good things about them.

I wanted to show some action shots of the dress. In this photo to the left I am wearing a completely ridiculous hat, necklace and covered in confetti because this is the part of the wedding where the bride and groom sit in chairs while we entertain them with costumes, tricks and funny dancing.

The action shot to the right is from the actual ceremony. The ceremony took place outside on a NY city street. Stone Street to be exact which is 2 blocks from where I work and have lunch. It was surreal to say the least. It was particularly amusing because other restaurants were open and people were outside and tons of them stopped to stare and listen and take photos and videotape the ceremony. Seriously strangers taped the wedding ceremony. I imagine they'll go home and show their friends all the crazy Jews on the streets of NY.

Anyways in this photo I am reciting one of the sheva brachas or the 7 prayers you say for the bride and groom. It was a great honor to be part of the ceremony. And once the service was done the bride, the groom, the klezmer band and all 200 guests had a dancing parade through the park across the street before we went into the wedding hall. I've never done that before and it was all sorts of amazing. A Jewish version of that wedding dance video that took youtube by storm a month ago and I promise it was planned long before that video came out.

Lest I forget that this is technically a fatshion blog I give you detail of the dress and shoes.
