Solid Gold

Sorry for the lack of posting, it's been a rough past week. To make it up to you I'm back with a completely and utterly ridiculous outfit that I hope gives you as much joy as it did me.

On Saturday night I attended a Solid Gold party and I was out to win for best outfit. Last year these same friends threw a Black and White party and I was totally going to win until my friend Ateqah showed up and completely bested my outfit. It took me a long time to get over that loss and I was determined to win this year, coming up with an outfit that would guarantee victory and let me tell you, victory was mine.

Here I am with the male winner of the evening in our matching 1970's victory necklaces. In case you were wondering, it was never about the prize, merely the bragging rights.

Back to the outfit. The top has a bit of a back story to it. I got via a plus-size vintage reseller called Cupcake and Cuddlebunny who has an etsy shop and who also sells on Fatshionista. She has really beautiful pieces, however I've ordered from her about 4 times off of Fatshionista and twice there was something wrong with my article of clothing. The shirt I'm wearing arrived with a hole in the front of it. The owner was very accommodating about it and allowed me to return the items and I did with one of them, but return shipping and waiting on line at the post office just makes it not worth my while.

The shorts are Size Queen via Re/Dress and the wig is courtesy of Target and I bought it cause 2 years ago I dressed up as Miss. Piggy for Halloween. Tights are Target, bag is vintage and my wedges are from Topshop. I must say Saturday reminded me just how much I love the way I look in heels and wedges. I really wish I had more tolerance for them, but I just don't. After about an hour of dancing they were sitting under the couch.

I got a lot of male attention on Saturday, many wondering 1) what my hair looked like under the wig and 2) if my outfit was made up of things I already had in my closet. The answer to the latter question was a resounding yes which amused people all night long. To my surprise folks were more shocked that I had a blond wig in my repertoire than sequined hot pants. Really?

It leads me to wonder if blonds have more fun or girls in hotpants have more fun. What do you think?

Someone talk me out of buying this

I love color - particularly purple - and I love making a statement and I love leggings. But apparently even sometimes I have limits...right?

Every time these "violet spandex leggings" go on sale I consider buying them. But I never have. Because somewhere in my mind even I must have a limit. I mean they're ridiculous right? I think the fact that they are perpetually on sale might be hint #1. Even I, the woman who owns these leggings thinks they're a bit too much.

And yet every time they go on sale I consider taking the plunge, why is that? I've written about fashion remorse, but I fear if I buy these I'll have actual buyers remorse. Talk me out of them readers, talk me out of them.

Also what do you think of this? I've always had an unnaturally soft spot in my heart (and wardrobe) for cherries.

Day 2, Dress 2

Two days in a row of lots of color. As any new followers will quickly learn, this is not shocking. I love Brooklyn so much that it hurts, but I am a bad New Yorker in that I like to wear a lot of color.

Anyways on to today's outfit. My faux DVF purchased at my absolute favorite dress store in the whole damn world. Ready for my secret shop...ROSS Dress for Less. Hella cheap, great selection and a huge variety of sizes from teeny weeny to death fats. I am obsessed and sadly (although it's definitely good for my pocketbook) there is no Ross in NY, or at least anywhere where I live in NY. Pre-financial collapse I used to travel a lot for my job to what I lovingly deem America's un-hot spots. Turns out there are a whole lot of Ross's in America's un-hot spots.

So today's dress is some random brand from Ross in a size 14 and I'm sure it cost less than $20. I say that it was for sure less than $20 b/c I wasn't so sure about this dress but my co-worker Nicole convinced me to get it and I wouldn't have spent more than $20 for something I was hemming and hawing over. Turns out it was a good purchase since I get rave reviews every time I wear it. Although the sleeves fall down a lot. In fact in the elevator this morning some older lady I didn't know reached over and pulled up my sleeve. I couldn't believe that and I almost slapped her but I thought hitting probably wouldn't be the most effective way to teach someone proper manners.

Necklace is from Reiss in England and was a birthday present many years ago from my dear friends Sam and Bruce. Shoes are Rocketdog (yes you read that correctly and I give you permission to vomit a little in your mouth) which I purchased in a crazed frenzy in Israel earlier this summer convinced that I'd wear them every day. They are comfy for heels, but I'm just not a heels girl. Today was their virgin outing because I'm considering wearing them to a wedding this weekend.
