Country Chic

Sometimes life is amazing. You tweet "I really need a weekend away" and all of a sudden a friend texts you "wanna go to the Catskills tomorrow?" and you have your weekend away. Life is magical that way.

Off we went for a lovely weekend of sleeping, cooking, drinking, game playing, dancing and general merriment. It was wonderful.

When planning my outfits for the weekend away I wanted to get into the country mood, look decent and be incredibly comfortable and I think I did a good job of it. Honestly I think in the right context throwing a furry vest on anything can make it a bit fabulous in the country.

Outfit sourcing:

Top - Evans
Leggings - Danskin via Ebay
Vest - Target
Boots - Duo
Sunglasses - Swiped from the coffee table, not entirely sure who they belong to. I think they're Ray-Bans.

My photographer for the day is a photo stylist for fancy shoots, can you tell? Also the view from the deck we took photos on is this. Can you imagine how gorgeous this must be in full spring bloom? Apparently spring comes even later to the Catskills than it does to Brooklyn.

Grecian Goddess

Wow that title makes me sound really self centered, doesn't it? I'm referencing my outfit inspiration, not saying I'm a Grecian goddess, although I did think I looked awfully cute.

With the pop-ups of warm weather we've been having I've been going a bit mad with spring shopping and today I bring you one of my new purchases. I got it from ebay seller Red Dot Boutique and I couldn't recommend them any higher. Their products are well priced, good quality and the service is outstanding. My only issue is that so many of their dresses are hand-wash only and I hate hand washing. I have more than a dozen dresses (possibly even 20 or so) sitting on the floor of my closet just waiting for me to get up the energy to hand-wash them. They have been waiting a very long time.

I love wearing white in the warmer months and this top/tunic/dress (what would you call it?) is one of my new favorites. It is easy and comfortable to wear and the embellishment on the sleeves kicks it up a notch.

I've paired my top/tunic/dress with a pair of American Apparel leggings (great color, crap quality), my evil stepmother "mirror, mirror on the wall" necklace from Forever 21 and sandals from Primark that I had to bin later that evening as they literally fell apart on me. I was grateful that they stayed in one piece long enough for me to make it home. They were awfully cute and I'm sad I had to get rid of them, but they were 6 pounds and sometimes you get what you pay for.

Also don't judge my toes, I haven't gotten a new pedi since February. The unexpected sandal weather took me by surprise.

Photo credit and banh mi sandwich belongs my lovely friend and colleague Amy. Although it looked so good that I went and got one myself 5 minutes later. Sandwich that is, not photo credit.

Finally I just wanted to share this photo I took on Saturday - little kids selling limeade on the sidewalk. I have a strict policy to never pass by a kids lemonade or (in this case limeade) stand without purchasing a glass. Not to mention fifty cents in Brooklyn ain't half bad.

Day 14. The countdown begins...

Countdown, what countdown you say. We're not even at the halfway mark of 30 Dresses in 30 Days, that's not till tomorrow. Except I'm talking about a much more personal countdown, the countdown to my thirtieth birthday. Eek-eek-eek!!! I'm being very un-bloomie like and having a full on meltdown over this birthday. I randomly burst into tears the other day at work and then sobbed "no one is going to want to date a 30 year old." At which point Nicole looked at me and told me that was the dumbest thing she had ever heard me say. She's right, it is and it is SO not me. I don't know what is coming over me, I just know that I'm having a bit of a crisis over my impending life altering birthday, thus the countdown.

But you wouldn't know that from my fabulous fatshion that I'm sporting today. In fact today I was anything but sad or droopy over the impending birthday of doom. Instead I was a vision of purple and yellow, with matching flowers to boot. Purple is always my go to color, but every now and then I become obsessed with another color and earlier this summer that color was yellow. I'm not sure if it was inspired by Michelle Obama or my excitement at the advent of summer after the bitter winter we had, but suffice it to say I bought a bunch of yellow back in May.

Dress is once again via ebay and is a 2x from Red-Dot-Boutique, which I wrote about a week ago today. Purple belt and necklace are from Primark and my shoes are from Office. I stopped at the supermarket on my way home from work and the woman behind me in the checkout line could not stop talking about my shoes. Suffice it to say I loved her. Flowers are from my CSA that I was bringing to my windowless office to bring some nature indoors and while I didn't carry them around all day as an accessory I included them in the photo because they too were purple and yellow.

To please Jamie I will say that this photo was taken outside of my office as I was walking in this morning. My friend Ateqah was today's photographer and I ran into her on the train which was lovely as she's one of the few people I actually enjoy running into on the train, usually I'm happy to just read. My current selection is The Yiddish Policemen's Union and I'm not quite sure yet if I like it, but I'm still reading which is a good sign. We then ran into two other friends on the walk to the office and as Ateqah laughingly said, it was like we were in a sitcom. Although our block was shut down for a VIP's arrival and that doesn't usually happen on sitcoms, or does it?

Sorry I'm not writing more or being witty or what have you. Tomorrow is primary day in NYC, something I take very seriously and I'm still an undecided voter and I'm researching and reading and putting all my energy into figuring out who to vote for rather than talking a whole lot about what I'm wearing. Blah. Plus I cooked a whole bunch tonight and I still have a ton of dishes to do.

I do have to add one thing, which is that being an "undecided voter" is so bizarre for me. I have never understood undecided voters who claim they don't know who they're voting for and won't till they get to the polls. Granted there's not quite as much of a difference between Brooklyn Dems Brad Lander and Josh Skaller as say there is between Barack Obama and John McCain, but I'm having some new found, later in life respect for the "undecided voter."

Day 7. Brunch time is fun time

I'm utterly exhausted from my long weekend which was magical and amazing and filled with love and excitement and happiness. BUT it was not filled with much sleep or relaxation. So a short post for today's outfit so I can head to bed.

Today I am recovering from the amazing wedding of yesterday but was summoned to Manhattan for a day-after brunch and how can I say no to that. I ended up spending the day shopping and I bought 4 new dresses (it's a sickness I tell you) from Loehmann's and Anthropologie, but I'll probably end up returning some. I'm a big buyer and returner. Plus I wasn't wearing a bra so I had to take things home and re-try them on with the proper undergarments.

Dress is a 2x from Red-Dot-Boutique via ebay. I can't say enough good things about this seller. Seriously, I went a bit mad and bought like 4 or 5 sundresses from this seller in the early summer. You will definitely see more things I got from them. They do super cute, affordable, plus size summer dresses and best of all they do measurements for each individual dress that they list.

Sore dancing feet are encased in havianna's which were yes, as pointed out by a commenter, acquired in a fabulous trip to Argentina. Earrings and Sunglasses are from Primark.
