Day 8. Guest Dresses and Cute Babies.

I don't know about you but I love to plan my outfits and usually begin planning them at least a day in advance if not more. Do you do this as well? I started thinking up today's outfit last night and was so excited by the idea of it that even though the weather wasn't ideal for the outfit I stayed with the general idea and just added some layering. It wasn't quite as cute as I had envisioned but it came off ok.

Today's dress comes via Brooklyn Industries, what started as a store in hipsterland Williamsburg and has now become a full fledged chain with stores all over Brooklyn and outposts in Chicago and Portland and {gulp} Manhattan. They have super cute stuff but are horribly overpriced for what they sell. Today's dress is a prime example. It is an xl and was originally something like $59 but I got it at their outlet for $19 which for what is basically a long cotton tank seems way more reasonable to me.

Vest is a xxl from Old Navy, purposefully peek-a-book turquoise bra is Lane Bryant, shoes are Primark and necklace was bought in Iguazu Falls in Argentina. The additional layers which I hadn't originally intended to wear are tights either from Hue or H&M, I can't quite remember. I wish I had been wearing this w/o tights as I think it would have been way cuter an outfit and temperature wise I probably would have been fine, but I wanted to be on the safe side.

Cardi is an xl from Old Navy and took me a hundred years to pick out this morning and then I barely wore it. Seriously, I really wanted to wear this outfit so I tried on a blue blazer, a navy sweatercoat and then settled on a cropped jean jacket when I suddenly remembered my blue cardigan and ran and changed my mind again. It's no wonder that it a) takes me a million years to get ready in the morning and b) do things like forget my phone at home.

But wait you say, what about the cutest and best accessory to grace the pages of 30 Dresses in 30 Days. Who is that adorable munchkin? JuJu is the daughter of two of my dear, dear friends who also happen to be fans of the blog. JuJu is kind of a big deal. Aside from the fact that at the ripe old age of 13 months she has probably traveled more than most Americans, she also already has not one, but two blogs about her. She's a total celeb-baby. I'm surprised US Weekly hasn't done a feature on JuJu spotting's just yet. I mean what 13 month old wouldn't want to party at the same playground that she does.

JuJu is in town because of Sunday's wedding and I kind of feel like Sunday's wedding is the wedding that just keeps on giving. We had ska on Friday, wedding on Sunday, brunch Monday (w/o the bride and groom but w/wedding guests), dinner on Tuesday and a Sheva Bracha party on Wednesday. Its been grand!

Guest Dresses for 9.8.09

At dinner tonight two of the guests wore dresses as well in honor of this blog and I asked their permission to include them as well. They were quite happy to be featured today. I don't have all the details, but MJ, the lovely lady on the left is wearing an adorable jumper purchased at Loehmann's and the lovely lady on the right, JLR, momma to the lovely JuJu and bestie extraordinaire is in a dress from Anthropologie. This is particularly funny as these are the two stores I bought dresses in yesterday.

Day 7. Brunch time is fun time

I'm utterly exhausted from my long weekend which was magical and amazing and filled with love and excitement and happiness. BUT it was not filled with much sleep or relaxation. So a short post for today's outfit so I can head to bed.

Today I am recovering from the amazing wedding of yesterday but was summoned to Manhattan for a day-after brunch and how can I say no to that. I ended up spending the day shopping and I bought 4 new dresses (it's a sickness I tell you) from Loehmann's and Anthropologie, but I'll probably end up returning some. I'm a big buyer and returner. Plus I wasn't wearing a bra so I had to take things home and re-try them on with the proper undergarments.

Dress is a 2x from Red-Dot-Boutique via ebay. I can't say enough good things about this seller. Seriously, I went a bit mad and bought like 4 or 5 sundresses from this seller in the early summer. You will definitely see more things I got from them. They do super cute, affordable, plus size summer dresses and best of all they do measurements for each individual dress that they list.

Sore dancing feet are encased in havianna's which were yes, as pointed out by a commenter, acquired in a fabulous trip to Argentina. Earrings and Sunglasses are from Primark.

Day 6: It's good to be a Jew!

On Sunday September 6th, my very dear, amazing and beloved friends got married. It was an absolutely, unbelievably joyful and wonderful day. Well day, night and early morning - I got to the wedding at 2pm and didn't get home till 4am. And then today a bunch of wedding/college friends went to brunch. Like the title says, it's good to be a Jew!

It was an amazing wedding. Filled with so much joy and love and Jewiness and felt so much like the bride and groom. I was hesitating among a few different dresses but decided in the end to wear what I thought they would like the most, as well as what was most comfortable. The comfort level had a few thoughts behind it. I knew it was going to be a long day, I knew there was going to be hours of dancing and most of all the bride and groom are big believers of comfort.

Dress is an 18 from Torrid and it's from like 2004 or something. It is so much fun and I've worn it to a huge variety of events from birthday picnics to trans-prom. It has stars, it has tulle and it twirls. Seriously what more could any girl ask for. Earrings which I forgot to photograph are from one of my favorite accessories store Accessorize (I know what an original name) and the headband is from Ross. Yes Ross has amazing dresses, but they also have fun accessories as well. Shoes are unsurprisingly from Office and are so comfy to dance the night away in. Seriously cannot say enough good things about them.

I wanted to show some action shots of the dress. In this photo to the left I am wearing a completely ridiculous hat, necklace and covered in confetti because this is the part of the wedding where the bride and groom sit in chairs while we entertain them with costumes, tricks and funny dancing.

The action shot to the right is from the actual ceremony. The ceremony took place outside on a NY city street. Stone Street to be exact which is 2 blocks from where I work and have lunch. It was surreal to say the least. It was particularly amusing because other restaurants were open and people were outside and tons of them stopped to stare and listen and take photos and videotape the ceremony. Seriously strangers taped the wedding ceremony. I imagine they'll go home and show their friends all the crazy Jews on the streets of NY.

Anyways in this photo I am reciting one of the sheva brachas or the 7 prayers you say for the bride and groom. It was a great honor to be part of the ceremony. And once the service was done the bride, the groom, the klezmer band and all 200 guests had a dancing parade through the park across the street before we went into the wedding hall. I've never done that before and it was all sorts of amazing. A Jewish version of that wedding dance video that took youtube by storm a month ago and I promise it was planned long before that video came out.

Lest I forget that this is technically a fatshion blog I give you detail of the dress and shoes.

Day 5, Park Time!

Today's outfit is one of three outfits I wore today. It was a busy Saturday. Outfit one was shorts and a t-shirt to go pick up my CSA and run a few errands. That was not a good look, but I had to roll out of bed far too early for my tastes and I was ever so slightly hung over and exhausted. On the upside, I got a great share this week. Outfit three was a repeat dress (but it's ok cause I did wear a new dress for daytime frolicing) from last year that I wore on a first date this evening which was ok. Not bad, not great, but decent. There was however some fascinating conversation.

Outfit 2 which I present to you today was worn to what was by far the best part of the day. We had the most gorgeous day imaginable in Brooklyn today and I got to spend the afternoon in the park with one of my best friends who had just returned the day before from her honeymoon. We sat, we picniced and most of all we gossiped. It was perfection.

Dress is technically a tunic that I have previously only worn with leggings, but today I rocked as a full on dress. It's from Evans and is a UK 18. I particularly love it because it has a built in bra which allows me to very comfortably achieve my weekend fashion goals of never wearing a bra. I have lofty goals, don't I? Details to the left.

It was hot and I didn't want anything on me so accessories are super limited today and there is an emphasis on things that were big, statement pieces that wouldn't lie against my skin. Sunglasses are from Primark and earrings are a million years old and I have no idea where they're from. Flip-flops are unfashionable, but good for the park and are my beloved havianna's. I heart their flip-flops so much.

Bag of absolute and utter fabulousness is from Lands End. I got it this summer and I, as well as some of my friends are completely obsessed with it. I love how I appropriate this completley waspy, New England staple into my very non-waspy, New England life.

9.5.09 accessories

Also for those who don't know me, purple is my signature color so it makes it even more fabulous. Having just checked out their site it appears they don't have purple on it anymore. I wonder if it was a summer limited edition color.

Tomorrow is a wedding and I still haven't fully decided what I'm wearing but I'll be sure to share it with you either way. Although I am betting I won't be uploading it till Monday. That was for you T&B.

Today I am a Rude Girl

Sorry about the late posting, I was tipsy and tired when I got home last night and in no form to be doing anything but sleep.

So last night I had a friends rehearsal dinner, the theme of which was "A Salad and Ska Soiree." No I am not making that up. Seriously I am not inventive enough to make that up, I went to a salad and ska themed party. Delicious food from the incomparable Tanoreen and ska music.

I don't know much about ska aside from the fact that there is some ska music in the classic 90's movie Clueless and that ostensibly No Doubt started off as a ska band. But I knew that was not what my friends meant when they said ska. They are music snobs and they meant the real ska from the 60's. When I asked how I was supposed to dress they first laughed and said to wear whatever I wanted. I however am never one to turn down an opportunity for a themed outfit so when I pressed them for more info they told me to look up rude girls for an idea.

That didn't really help me so much either so I just googled imaged ska fashion and the overwhelming response was really anything in black and white. Which leads us to today (or technically yesterday).

Today I am a Rude Girl

A closer view

From the side. Do we like the multiple shots or is it bringing my narcissism to a whole new level?

Side view 9.4.09

Tights (the first outing of tights this season, woo hoo) are Hue which if you ask me is just about the best brand out there, although they don't do their really fun colors in the larger sizes. Tunic (told you I was generous at this point with what constitutes a dress) is from Dorothy Perkins in a size 20.

One of the things that I love about UK stores is how many of them carry up to a 22 UK in their stores. Granted a 22 only equals an 18 US, but considering that so many American stores have taken to removing their 14/16 out of their stores and only selling them online (I'm talking about you Ann Taylor, Gap, Banana Republic, J. Crew and American Eagle just to name a few) I appreciate the in store size variety. I hate stores that want to take inbetweenie money, but don't want us actually in their stores trying on clothes.

However I am ranting and getting off topic. Focus bloomie. So it's the accessories that make this outfit, so lets proceed to them. I mean if I had to wear this as just a top and tights with no accessories I'd be so uncomfortable that I would not want to leave the house. Seriously, I'd rather go naked than be un-accessorized.

Polka dot Office shoes

Shoes are once again from my beloved Office. Neck scarf is from Forever 21 and I had to have assistance from a friend as to how to wear it. I always want to be a girl who wears jaunty scarfs, but they usually just end up as headbands on me. Belt is from Lane Bryant and earrings I think were from some random pound store in London. My hair and makeup came from 90's inspired ska and I have no idea if that's correct, but it was the only thing I had to go with.

This means Sunday there will be wedding attire photos!

Day 3, Dress -50

This is so embarrassing but I already fucked up. I knew it might happen at some point but I didn't think it'd happen on the third day. Eek. I overslept this morning and didn't get up till 9 and I had to run to get out the door by 9:45 so I'd be at my desk for a 10:30 call and so I didn't check previous years dresses. Thus I'm wearing a repeat. Eek, I am so embarrassed. If you read to the end I think I've come up with a way to make it up to you.

On the plus side, this means I'm going to be double checking dresses for the rest of the month. Luckily my accessories are cute and totally different from the last time around.

So here we go...

Day 3, Dress -50

Dress is once again from my favorite London vintage store Thea. Belt is from Primark (which I also have in purple). Teapot necklace is Betsey Johnson via Bloomingdales. Headband is from my favorite Brooklyn boutique Goldy Mac. Headband

I heart Goldy Mac and it is all of 5 blocks from my house. They have a small but great selection that is well priced and they carry a fair amount of clothing that I can fit into which makes me love them even more. Lately they've been carrying a lot of my must have accessories of the moment which are fun Gossip Girl/Blair Waldorf inspired headbands and general hair accoutrement's.

Candy shoes

My adorable candy shoes are from Office, my most beloved shoe store in the whole wide world. Seriously I can and will go on and on and on about Office. It is impossible for me to visit England for more than 24 hours and not buy at least one pair of shoes from Office. I own many, many, many pairs of Office shoes. But I can't help it, at the age of 25 I discovered my perfect shoe store. The place I can walk into and know that more than 9 times out of 10, an Office size 6 will fit me perfectly and be comfortable and cute all at the same time. I go to London twice a year or so and usually stock up on my shoes for the season there. I know, I'm shopping in the wrong direction, isn't it supposed to be the other way around.

And finally, to make up for my dress mistake from earlier in the day I give you my second "dress" of the day, a vintage nightie that I got via a Friday fats sale. Crappy photo quality is via my mac and sadly I know no details about it other than it's cute and makes me feel better about my mishap from earlier. Plus it proves I'm fatshionable even when I sleep.

Day 3, Second attempt at a dress

Day 2, Dress 2

Two days in a row of lots of color. As any new followers will quickly learn, this is not shocking. I love Brooklyn so much that it hurts, but I am a bad New Yorker in that I like to wear a lot of color.

Anyways on to today's outfit. My faux DVF purchased at my absolute favorite dress store in the whole damn world. Ready for my secret shop...ROSS Dress for Less. Hella cheap, great selection and a huge variety of sizes from teeny weeny to death fats. I am obsessed and sadly (although it's definitely good for my pocketbook) there is no Ross in NY, or at least anywhere where I live in NY. Pre-financial collapse I used to travel a lot for my job to what I lovingly deem America's un-hot spots. Turns out there are a whole lot of Ross's in America's un-hot spots.

So today's dress is some random brand from Ross in a size 14 and I'm sure it cost less than $20. I say that it was for sure less than $20 b/c I wasn't so sure about this dress but my co-worker Nicole convinced me to get it and I wouldn't have spent more than $20 for something I was hemming and hawing over. Turns out it was a good purchase since I get rave reviews every time I wear it. Although the sleeves fall down a lot. In fact in the elevator this morning some older lady I didn't know reached over and pulled up my sleeve. I couldn't believe that and I almost slapped her but I thought hitting probably wouldn't be the most effective way to teach someone proper manners.

Necklace is from Reiss in England and was a birthday present many years ago from my dear friends Sam and Bruce. Shoes are Rocketdog (yes you read that correctly and I give you permission to vomit a little in your mouth) which I purchased in a crazed frenzy in Israel earlier this summer convinced that I'd wear them every day. They are comfy for heels, but I'm just not a heels girl. Today was their virgin outing because I'm considering wearing them to a wedding this weekend.

Project Overview aka What Should Have Been my First Post

This probably should have been my first post. Oops. Anyways here we go.

So in September of 2007 I took a look at my closet, saw how much was in there that I never wore and decided that I was going to wear a different dress every day for the month of September and never repeat a dress. From this came 30 Dresses in 30 Days.

The original purpose of this exercise was twofold. 1) Get me wearing all of the clothing in my closet and 2) showcase all of the places I buy my clothes and the different sizes I wear. As you'll see I wear anything from a 10-20 a l-2x. Fuck sizes, they mean nothing.

And then September 2008 rolled around and I still had a lot of dresses I hadn't worn and so I did it again. I never repeat a dress from a previous year. You'll notice that my documentation from last year isn't quite as good. Chalk it up to bronchitis/mouse invasion/hives - suffice it to say, not a good month. I do however have the photos on my computer and have already consulted them to ensure that I'm not repeating an outfit from last year.

Which leads us to September 2009. I think I have enough new dresses to never repeat a dress from 2007 or 2008 but I won't know for certain till the month progresses and I dig deeper and deeper into my closet. I have begun to be a bit more generous with what constitutes a dress and last year decided that tunics/long tops/etc...would be allowed.

It's a fun little project and I blog mostly for my friends and for some fellow fatshionistas.

Day 1, Dress 1.

So today is the very first day in 2009's "30 Dresses in 30 Days" and I'm already finding it difficult. The weather was cooler this morning than I anticipated for September 1 and I didn't want to wear one of my long sleeved dresses so early in the month. I also had to check my photo diary from the last 2 years more than once to ensure that I wasn't repeating an outfit.

So I give you dress 1. The perfect dress for today because it's made of some terrible 70's material that I can't wear when it's warmer than the mid-70's.

I got this dress from my favorite vintage store in London called Thea. It's in my old hood of Camden, deep within the market. It's not a stall but a free standing store and it's got some great dresses at decent prices and somehow everytime I go I manage to find something to fit my ass.

As for accessories, which as you will soon learn I am obsessed with they come from the following.

Necklace I got from an indigenous vendor in Iguazu. Belt is from a Friday Fatshionista sales post. Shoe are from my beloved Primark.

I wore this to work and to an ACLU ladieez happy hour on my friends terrace afterwork. Nothing particularly special, but it was an absolutely beautiful day today in New York.
