Sometimes I Wear Pants

Not often, not a lot, but sometimes I wear pants. A fact which can take people by surprise. This afternoon I ran into a friend while running errands who commented "I didn't even know you owned jeans." Ha. In fact I own plenty of pants and plenty of jeans. I am after all, a woman who loves options and large wardrobes.

The jeans are Not Your Daughter Jeans, purchased for a fraction of their retail price at a Ross in Orlando, Florida. They were this magical, amazing lone pair of jeans in an 18 petite that were just waiting for me to take them home. I've paired the jeans with my beloved purple cowboy boots but it may have been a bad idea. I'm afraid they give me just enough height to make my jeans look an inch too short. Next time I'll stick to flats.

Almost everything else I'm wearing was a hand-me-down. The t-shirt was from my friend Lauren and the cardigan was from my friend Jamie and both originally came from Anthropologie.

The crazy necklace once belonged to my Grandmother and I can't quite imagine her ever wearing it. The fascinator was purchased at a Brooklyn street fair.

Jeans are comfortable and keep you warm in the winter, but to me their most fabulous function is that they showcase my ass better than any other article of clothing.

Learning to Embrace Baggy

I like defined shapes. I wear a lot of belts, cropped cardigans and jackets and form fitting clothes in general. Big, baggy clothes haven't really been my cup of tea since college. Although back in college putting on actual clothes and not just pajamas was a big step for me, so using that as a touchstone doesn't really mean much. One day I will scan some photos and you will all have a very big laugh at my expense.

This outfit represents me out of my comfort zone. I was planning on belting it till I caught a glimpse in the mirror (as I was crossing my room to grab a belt) and thought, "oh, this doesn't look half bad just as it is." And since I'm trying to try new things and go out of my comfort zone a bit I left the house sans belt. I will say it was a very comfortable outfit.

The top is via Re/Dress NYC and you first saw it in September (where I wore it with a belt) and the jeans you've also seen before, they're Z. Cavarichi via Ross. Since the outfit felt slightly masculine to me, I felt the need to overcompensate by having it unbuttoned pretty low and flashing some cleavage, and some bling via my H&M "pearls" and bejeweled flats from Nine West.

Fake It Till You Make It

This is going to be a very, very quick post of last Friday's outfit. I'm going to be quick because I was still sad last week, which you can probably tell from my red-ringed eyes in the photo, but I'm in a much better mood this week and I don't want to focus on last weeks sadness. However I thought y'all might enjoy Friday's colors, which was another day of dressing the opposite of how I felt. My colors were bright, happy and cheerful and I was not. Folks kept saying I looked like I was colorblocking, whatever that quite means.

So in a brief rundown of last Friday's outfit.

I'm wearing these amazing purple Tripp pants that I got from Torrid in one of their mega clearance sales. They have these pants in a variety of crazy colors and after months of hemming and hawing I finally ordered a pair for like $15 and let me tell you I LOVE them. I think they're so much fun! The sweater is a hand me down from my darling Jamie. You might remember I wore an outfit using the same sweater in a similar color palette, but it was a very different look.

Now on to the accessories, my favorite part. I'm wearing a new, purple sequined bow that I got from Dorothy Perkins, which reminds me that I must update you on that international order that didn't go so well. The earrings are from Topshop and the necklace I got in a rainforest in Argentina.

And the shoes, ahh the shoes. I think these may have been the very first pair of shoes I owned from my beloved Office and if you can't tell from looking at them I have loved them to death. Seriously, I have had these resoled at least 4 times and they are stretched out and coming apart and fall off my feet half the time, but they are the perfect, gold flat and I can't find anything perfect enough to replace it with. I'm an 8.5 if you see anything that you think will work for me.

I interrupt this regulary scheduled broadcast

To announce that I am wearing pants right now. Not as in I woke up at 10:45 and had to roll out of bed to pick up my CSA by 11 so I grabbed whatever was close by, but as in I woke up this morning, showered, tried on many incarnations of an outfit and headed to work wearing jeans. See people I do own pants.

I also realized this morning that I kind of forgot
a) how to dress myself when I'm not wearing a dress
b) how to dress for the cold weather
c) what I own for the fall season

I think I need to reacquaint myself with my wardrobe this weekend.
